American soprano Olivia Yokers is well regarded for her thrilling voice and versatility on stage. Ms. Yokers has performed pieces spanning from Mozart to Rodgers and Hammerstein, as well as Philip Glass. She was most recently seen performing Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance with The Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre. There she also performed the role Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical. Yokers other recent credits include, Berta in The Barber of Seville with Virginia Opera, Lily in The Secret Garden with The Fitton Playhouse, Laurey in Oklahoma!, Sardula in The Last Savage, Josephine in HMS Pinafore, and Lolo in The Merry Widow with Indiana University Opera Theatre. While at Indiana University, Ms. Yokers was a part of an opera outreach program, “Reimagining Opera for Kids”, where she performed the roles of Lucy in The Telephone, Cinderella in Into the Woods, and Pamina in The Magic Flute. Outside of Indiana University, Ms. Yokers has performed Cecilia in Iolanthe with the University Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Olive Ostrovsky in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Rose in The Secret Garden with the Fairfield Summer Theatre, and Daughter in Ahknaten with the Indianapolis Opera. In the summer of 2015, Ms. Yokers was an apprentice artist for Charlottesville Opera, and in prior summer seasons, worked as a member of the Cincinnati Opera chorus. This past year Ms. Yokers was a Herndon Young Artist with Virginia Opera.This year she looks forward to joining Dayton Opera as one of their young artists for their 2018 season. Along with stage work, Ms. Yokers also won the title of Cincinnati Opera Idol in 2012, first prize in both the Dayton Opera Guild Competition and Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Colligate Competition in 2013, and was awarded first place at the Hamilton-Fairfield Symphony Guild Voice Competition in 2016. With the Hamilton-Fairfield Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Yokers appeared as a soloist singing both Gabriel and Eve in Haydn’s Creation. Ms. Yokers earned her Master of Music degree in 2016 and her Bachelor of Music degree in 2014 both from Indiana University. While attending Indiana University, Ms. Yokers studied with Alice Hopper. She is a native of Hamilton, OH.
